10 Reasons Why All Electric Homes Will Be the New Normal

  1. We are in the midst of a climate emergency. We must eliminate carbon usage in our homes and everywhere else too. We still need to heat, cool, light, and operate our homes and electricity is a widespread commercially available alternative to fossil fuels.
  2. Every fossil fuel appliance now has an all electric counterpart that exceeds it both in terms of performance and energy efficiency.
  3. As our power grid shifts from fossil fuels to renewable generation all electric homes are automatically capable of being run off completely renewable electricity generation.
  4. An all electric home can be much more resilient during power outages with a few batteries.
  5. Add a few solar panels or small wind turbines in almost any location on earth and a single family high efficiency all electric home has a lot of potential to put more energy back onto the grid than it uses over the course of a year.
  6. New property developers will save money by eliminating the provision of gas utility connections, fees, infrastructure, plumbers, piping, and fittings.
  7. Homes will be safer for occupants because the risks of both gas explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning are eliminated.
  8. Residential garages will begin to get electrical service upgrades and additions as all-electric cars begin to proliferate. During the course of these upgrades it will make very good financial sense to upgrade service to adjacent homes at the same time to enable all-electric homes.
  9. As Photovoltaic, Wind, and other renewable energy sources become more widespread, market scale efficiencies will continue to improve. This combined with further technological improvements and the cost of renewable energies will continue to go down. Inevitably this will make even cheaper fossil fuels like natural gas an obsolete and expensive relic of the past.
  10. All electric homes don’t generate any on-site pollution which will mean higher air quality for everyone.
  11. Because number 1 bears repeating. We are in a fucking climate emergency. Go all electric and stop burning dinosaur goo!
