The Most Beautiful Urban Spaces in Barcelona

Posted on 2022-07-222022-12-23 by Tomas Aguilar

The purpose of this post is to highlight some of my favorite urban spaces in Barcelona and get a better understanding of what makes these spaces so wonderful and successful. I am using the term Urban space here to indicate any space, facility, street, plaza, buildings, or infrastructure that is open to the public free of charge. As such, this excludes very popular icons and tourist destinations such as the inside of the Sagrada Familia. However, this does not exclude the free park just outside the doors of the Cathedral.

Places shown in this post

  • Plaza Real,
  • Plaza de las Cascadas by Montjuic – Museo Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
  • Plaza del Nord,
  • Paseo de Borne,
  • Calle Enrique Granados,
  • Passeig de gracia (photos of fire festival)
  • Parque de la cuitadella,
  • Arc de Triunfo,
  • Passeig de St Joan,
  • Plaza de Sant Pere,
  • Superia Peatonal Sant Antoni on the Carrer del Compte Borrell,
  • Carrer del Magalhaes,
  • Plaza Catalunya / Rambla de Catalunya
  • Avenida Diagonal
  • Placa de la Torre (Gracia) near plaza Lesseps
  • La Gran Via
La Rambla!
Ronda de Sant Antoni
Typical random Barcelona Sidewalk
Rambla Catalunya
Another typical random sidewalk in L’Eixample
Tasty food market.
Passeig de Gracia on the day of the Fire Festival
I don’t even remember where I took this photo.
La playa del Somorrostro
Park Guell is an interesting situation that blurs the lines. Although Park Guell does require payment from tourists, locals are able to visit the park free of charge.
Plaza Universitat
Fuente Magica de Montjuic with the Museo Nacional D’Art de Catalunya and the Plaza de las Cascadas in the background. Conveniently tucked beside these stairs are sets of escalators that make it easy for everyone to go up and down this hill. This is probably why there are so many people at the top of the hill in front of the museum.
Escalators to cross the street.
